Obituary for Nina Clancy Stone Newton Kilgore

Nina Clancy Stone Newton Kilgore, 91, formerly of Avon, CT, died peacefully January 12, 2015 after enjoying her remaining years at Duncaster Retirement Community in Bloomfield, CT. She was born in Buffalo, NY, March 25, 1923 to Grace Meadway of Buffalo, NY and Erling Stone of Rochester, NY. She was an active member of the Avon Congregational Church and its Tuesday Crafters and Paperbacker's Book Club, delivered Meals-on-Wheels and loved bridge. She was a master knitter, seamstress, cook, beautiful swimmer, and crossword puzzler. She loved a bargain, fresh baked cookies, a martini, a snowy winter, birds on the birdfeeder and her family. She especially enjoyed large family gatherings at their “Charlie-built” home in Avon and vacation home in Henniker NH. She delighted in arranging family gatherings at Cape Cod and three cruises. Nina attended Brockport State University in New York. In 1943 she attended the Curtis-Wright aeronautical engineering program for women at Cornell University. She taught Nursery School and retired from the Connecticut State Labor Department. Nina was predeceased by husbands Winford Alan (Al) Newton in 1963 and Charles (Charlie) Kilgore in 2010, and brother Robert Stone. She is survived by her children, Rae Gee and husband Tom of New Bern, NC, Brian Newton and wife Judy of Visalia, CA, Mark Newton and wife Donna of Granby, CT, Susan Kilgore of Farmington, CT, Dennise Howard and husband Fred of Reno, NV, Marianne Lee and husband Ron of Bluffton, SC and John Kilgore of Litchfield, CT. She is survived by 7 grandchildren, Robert Baer and David Townsend of Kodiak, AK, Erin Newton and husband Danny Inman of Arvada, CO, Jodi Orndorff and husband Josh of South Riding, VA, Jamie McSorley and husband Matt of Stafford, VA, Elinor Walquist and husband Scott of Reno, NV, Leanne Howard of Reno, NV and 5 great-grandchildren. Also, Nina is survived by her cousin, Barbara Gale of Nashua, NH. A memorial service will be at the Avon Congregational Church on February 21, at 11:00 AM. Her family is requesting memorial donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Nina's family would especially like to thank her live-in aide, Ama Denkwaa Appiah. Nina lived a much fuller life because of her loving care and attentiveness. Her family also thanks the staff at Duncaster Assisted Living who made her time there feel like home.
