Phyllis A. (Ewing) Hamborg, 94, of Simsbury, wife of the late Robert Charles Hamborg, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Gladeview Health Care Center in Old Saybrook. She was born March 5, 1922 in Des Moines, IA, daughter of the late Ross and Winifred (Keister) Ewing and lived in Buffalo, NY prior to moving to Simsbury 45 years ago. She was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Iowa in 1948. Phyllis was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Simsbury Women’s Club and the Encore Club. She was an avid bridge player, gardener, reader, enjoyed the New York Times Crossword Puzzles and was an accomplished seamstress. She traveled extensively with Robert during their retirement. Both were especially fond of the annual family summer vacation to Kiawah Island as well as their trips with the Simsbury Arts Council. Mostly, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her daughter, Diana Annon and her husband Bob of Essex, her son, Brian Hamborg and his wife Beverly of Grove City, OH, her grandchildren, Erica Annon and her fiance Shantanu Dhaka of Brooklyn, NY, Kyle Hamborg and his wife Crystal of Grove City, OH and Aaron Hamborg of Grove City, OH and her great grandchildren, Mikaela and Brooklyn Hamborg, children of Kyle and Crystal. In addition to her beloved husband of 66 years and her parents, she was predeceased by her step mother, Dorothy Ewing. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Gladeview and Middlesex Hospital Hospice for the care and support they provided.

There will be no calling hours. The family will hold a private service for Phyllis and burial with her husband in the State of Connecticut Veterans’ Cemetery.
