Mary Forbes Kerwin (Forbes)
Mary Forbes Kerwin, 86, of Florida, beloved wife of Lawrence J. Kerwin, Jr., died Friday, May 27, 2016. She was born August 2, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Arsenault) Forbes and had lived in Simsbury for many years. While attending Buckeley High School in Hartford, she met the love of her life. They were married for 60 years, raising a family together and always willing to make another move to further Larry’s career. After 18 moves, they called Simsbury their home for 30 years. In 2004, they retired together in Bradenton, FL to enjoy their golden years. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury and was a volunteer who served proudly as President of the St. Francis Women’s’ Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Maureen K. Thompson and her husband Dave of Wilmington, DE, Michael J. Kerwin and his wife Jean of Ellicott City, MD, Patricia K. Askham and her husband Peter of Simsbury, Lawrence J. Kerwin, III and his wife Carolyn of Oakdale, PA and Thomas J. Kerwin and his wife Cathy of Naperville, IL; her grandchildren, Morna Moher, Leah Henelt, Matthew Kerwin, Sean Askham, Daniel Ikeda, John Kerwin, Adam Askham, Peter Kerwin, Meghan Askham, Patrick Kerwin, Emaline Kerwin; nine great grandchildren; her sister, Kathleen F. Sullivan and her husband Raymond; her former son-in-law, Satoshi Ikeda and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a niece, Noreen Sullivan.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Tuesday, June 7th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral will be Wednesday, June 8th, 9:15 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Auxiliary at St. Francis, 114 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105.
