Francis Joseph Ashmore
Francis Joseph Ashmore, 67, of East Granby, passed away surrounded by family, after a 14 year battle with cancer. His wife of 33 years, Elspeth McIntyre Ashmore predeceased him in 2012. Joe is survived by his children Anna Ashmore Zeinieh (husband John) of Dedham, MA and John Ashmore of Springfield, MA. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Kiah, Joseph and Charles. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Ann and Ellen Ashmore of Tariffville, CT. Joe was the third child of Francis Ashmore and Anna Bonczek Ashmore, who have predeceased him. Born in Hartford, CT, Joe grew up in Tariffville, CT and raised his family in East Granby, CT. He was a 1967 graduate of Simsbury High School, and also graduated from Western New England College in Springfield, MA. Joe married Elspeth in 1979. Since graduating from college Joe has been in the electrical business; establishing Ashmore Electric. He was a hard worker who always went out of his way to offer a helping hand to those in need. His knowledge, dedication and integrity were valued by business partners and family alike. The joys of Joe’s life were family, friends and his standard poodle Tessie. He loved entertaining in his homes in East Granby, CT and Narragansett, RI. While his children were growing up he opened his home to all of their friends, and truly became a “father” to everyone. Later in life, nothing made Joe happier than being a grandfather and watching his grandchildren play. Calling hours will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Thursday, June 30th from 4-7 pm. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 1st, at 11am at St. Bernard’s Church in Tariffville, CT. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
