Anthony J. Cassavechia
Anthony J. Cassavechia, 93, of Canton, husband of the late Irene (Blizman) Cassavechia, died Tuesday ,October 4, 2016 at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. He was born in Ridgefield son of the late Nazzareno and Angelina (Giaoccomini)Cassavechia and had lived in Ridgefield for many years prior to moving to Canton 11 years ago. Anthony was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army European Battalion of the XVIII Airborne Corps, “The Flying Sky Dragons”. Mr. Cassavechia was a Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for many years prior to his retirement. Tony enjoyed bowling, sports, gardening and especially enjoyed pro wrestling.
He is survived by his son, Paul Cassavechia and his wife Marianne of Canton; his sisters, Dorothy Samuelson and her husband Einar of Medway,MAand Viola Giannarelli of FL; his grandson, Sean Cassavechia and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Gino, Alteo and Jolindo and two sisters, Hilda Suita and Mary Federico.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Saturday, October 8th from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in Collinsville. Private burial with military honors will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ridgefield.
