Obituary for
Randolph Neils Christensen
Randolph Neils Christensen, passed peacefully on Thursday, October 6 2016, at the age of 91. “Randy” was born August 22, 1925 to Randolph Neils Christensen (his dad) and Frances Luraschi Christensen. Randy grew up in New Rochelle, New York and attended Isaac E. Young High School where he was the Pitcher for the baseball team. Randy would often recall a game in which he pitched against Ralph Branka, a New York Giants star, who after the game complimented him with a “good pitchin’ “Lefty”. Randy met his wife to be, Evelyn Lucille Flamig, just before enlisting in the Army where he served in 86th BlackHawk Division, one of the first to cross the Rhine in the German Campaign in WWII. Randy and Evelyn were married June 27, 1947 and remained that way for 65 years. Randy graduated from Syracuse University and later received a Masters Degree from Hillyer College, (Now the University of Hartford). Randy taught English at Bristol High School and later created his own insurance agency “The Valley Agency” in West Simsbury next door to Flamig Farm, where he helped Evelyn raise five boys. Neils, Nevin, Nord, Noel and Noris. It was quite an adventure. Randy was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, The Masonic Lodge, the Simsbury Grange and The Nutmegger Camera Club where one of his photos once won a cruise to Nassau and Haiti. He loved tennis, golf and Randy and Evelyn Loved Ballroom Dancing together. Randy leaves his five sons and their wives; his sister Mae and her husband Bud of Carmel, New York; 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Elliot “Chris” Christensen of California.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, Wednesday, October 19th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 20th, at the Simsbury United Methodist Church, 799 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will be private.
