Obituary for
Raynald E. Bergeron
Raynald E. Bergeron, 95, of Collinsville, husband of the late Eleanor Anne (Rasinski) Bergeron, died Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Apple Rehab in Avon. He was born September 12, 1921 in Biddeford, ME, son of the late Edward and Obeline (Beaupre) Bergeron and had been a life long resident of Collinsville. Raynald was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer aboard the USS Denver. He was a graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1941, and had attended Connecticut Teachers College. Mr. Bergeron was the First Selectman of the Town of Canton for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Canton Volunteer Fire Department, the Lions Club, St. Patrick’s Church in Collinsville and was the founder of the Young Democrats Club in Canton and founder and former president of the Canon High School Boosters Club. Raynald enjoyed boating, fishing and spending summers at Cape Cod with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Denise Bergeron White and her husband Paul of Rhode Island; his son Daniel E. Bergeron of Collinsville; his grandchildren Kellie Dennis, Jay Dennis, Megan Varuolo and Vincent Varuolo; his great grandchildren, Olivia Roberts, Cole Roberts, Vincent Paul Varuolo, Domini Varuolo and Grace Varuolo and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Rachelle Golarz and Marguerite Anderson.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Thursday, December 29th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral will be Friday, December 30th, 10:15 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in Collinsville. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Canton Football, P.O. Box 54, Canton CT 06019.
