Obituary for Barbara Jean Kluge Deming

Barbara Jean Kluge Deming departed this earth for the “Happy Hunting Ground,” as she used to say, on February 2, 2017 after a long and fruitful life. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur S. Deming, 20 years ago and by her eldest son, Steven. She was born in Montclair, New Jersey in 1922, where she resided until marrying her husband, a WWII Navy “flyboy”, and moving to New Haven, CT. After bearing three children in suburban New Jersey, her family moved to Lima, Peru for business, and then onto Brazil and Mexico before returning to the US twenty years later. She was classy, caring, thoughtful, practical and resilient, with keen common sense. She resided in West Hartford, Maine and San Antonio, Texas, before moving to Simsbury, where she resided for the last twenty years. She loved Simsbury, its people and its lovely New England flavor. She was a member of the Simsbury Womens’ Club, a past member of the Town and County Club, an active volunteer with the Village for Families and Children and other organizations. She was an avid tennis player until she was 86 and a good golfer. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark Deming and Linda Schofield of Simsbury, and her daughter Lauren Cabrera Deming and her husband, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, all of Queretaro, Mexico. She will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be Sunday February 12, 1:00 to 3:00, at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. A reception will follow at 3:30 at the Simsbury Inn, 397 Hopmeadow Street, with a eulogy at 4:00. Anyone who prefers to make a donation in lieu of flowers may donate to the Simsbury Women’s Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 903, Simsbury, CT 06070.
