Obituary for Elizabeth Curtiss Clark (Curtiss)

Elizabeth “Betty” Curtiss Clark, 88, beloved wife for 61 years of the late Richard “Dick” Clark, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2017, at McLean Home, Simsbury, CT. Betty was born in Hartford, CT on October 23, 1928, daughter of the late Richard E. and Anna (O’Donnell) Curtiss. She was raised in Simsbury attended High School in Town, married Dick who also grew up in Simsbury, and they went on to raise three children on Firetown Road. Dick, with the help of others, built a house on property Betty’s father owned on Firetown Road. It was a time in post WW II era where family helped each other.

After Betty finished raising her children at home she went on to work as a receptionist for the Town of Simsbury. Betty felt blessed to raise a family in such a supportive place as Simsbury and to work for the Town. Through it all, Betty felt surrounded by a special community of family, friends and co-workers. Betty and Dick truly enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their lakeside cottage on Lake Congamond. After retirement, they were blessed with being able to spend eighteen relaxing, and memorable years in Vero Beach, Florida where they made lasting and loving friendships.

Betty is predeceased by her sister Eileen Mainville and daughter Nancy Clark. Betty is survived by two sons, Richard Clark and his wife Dianne, of the Woodlands, TX and Paul Clark and his wife Despina of Glastonbury, CT, two grandchildren, Madeline and Annie Clark, of the Woodlands, TX and her brother Richard Curtiss and his wife Lorraine of Simsbury, CT.
Betty especially enjoyed the presence of family and friends, engaging in conversation that more often than not ended in laughter. There truly was a special community of family and friends that surrounded Betty throughout her life and that meant the world to her.

Rick and Paul wish to thank all the support staff at McLean Home in the Robinson and Atwater wings. Donations can be made to McLean Hospice. A memorial service will be held sometime over the summer at the Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury. Please visit Betty’s “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online condolences.
