Obituary for John Molstad

John G. Molstad, 84, of Simsbury, beloved husband of Helen A. (Martinson) Carpenter Molstad, died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at his home with family at his side. He was born April 12, 1932 in Kenosha, WI, son of the late Gehard P. and Mable (Jenson) Molstad and had lived in Illinois prior to moving to Simsbury 47 years ago. John was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Class of 1957, having graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Molstad was a Senior Claims Analyst for Connecticut General for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and choir in Avon, the Boy Scouts having achieved Eagle Scout, the Farmington Valley Square Dance Club and was active in both Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He enjoyed bowling, golf, camping and RV traveling and was a fan of the Packers, Patriots, the Wisconsin Badgers, the Red Sox, UCONN Huskies. For many years enjoyed being a “snow-bird” in Florida.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his three children, James M. Carpenter and his wife Charlene of Pierre, SD, Julie Hardy and her husband Phil of Dunwoody, GA and David Molstad and his wife Suellen of Newington; three grandchildren, Jacob Molstad, Emily Molstad and Michelle Moser and her husband Kevin; his great grandchildren, Jordan, Casey and Aaron Moser; his niece, Kathy Verzal; his nephews, Greg Allen and Gary Stein. He was predeceased by his sister, Carol Jean Stein and his nephew, Jeffrey Stein.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Friday, April 21st from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 22nd, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 224 Lovely Street in Avon. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to McLean Hospice, St. Matthew Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
