Obituary for Janet Marie Dandley

Janet Marie (Mishico) Dandley, 81, of Canton, died peacefully in her home on April 11, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Born November 5, 1935 in Danbury, CT. She was predeceased by her parents George and Myrtle E. (Willis) Mishico Of Brookfield, CT. and her late husband Bernard Dandley.
Education was an important element of Jan’s life. It provided her with the ability to create opportunities for others. After graduating from Danbury State Teachers College she began her career in New Fairfield, CT, then spent thirty years in the Hartford Public School system. After retiring she continued practicing her vocation as a volunteer at the Trust House teaching English as a second language and preparing young adults for their GED. Helping others was a trait she learned during her early childhood and one that followed her into her adult life. Jan was an active member of The Quota Club of Bristol, a woman’s service organization. She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and playing the word game, Words with Friends. However, spending time with family and friends and her many adventures with her dearest and closest friend Ann brought Jan her greatest joy.

Jan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Tracey and Jeff MacLaren of Canton. CT, her brother Gregory Mishico and his wife Judith of Chesterfield, VA., a brother William and his wife Donna of Woodbury, CT., her sister-in-law Susanne McNamara of Farmington, CT, her beloved granddaughter Emma MacLaren, and many cherished nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 55 River Road, Collinsville, CT. at 1:00 PM Thursday April 20, 2017. Donations in Jan’s name can be sent to Canton Dollars for Scholars.

The family would like to thank the staff at the St. Francis Cancer Center and McLean Hospice for their kindness and support. Please visit Janet’s “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online condolences.
