Guy Otis Farrar, 96, of Canton, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Avon Health Center. He was the beloved husband of 75 years of Norma (Moreside) Farrar. Guy was born in Lubec, Maine on September 16, 1920, son of the late Guy and Eva (Bridges) Farrar. He moved to Simsbury in 1941 where he and his sweetheart Norma were married and raised their family. He was a World War II veteran, MSgt U.S. Army, having proudly served as a high speed radio operator in the signal corps in Japan and the Philippines. While in Simsbury he worked at Westminster School, Ensign Bickford, and was later employed as a television technician for Hall Brothers and S.K. Lavery. After moving to Canton in 1977 he was employed as an assembler at Simplex Industries in Collinsville. Guy will be remembered for his quick wit and keen sense of humor full of puns and “spoonerisms”. He had many interests which included flying as a private pilot out of Simsbury Airport and later as a member of the Central CT Radio Controlled Flying Club in Farmington. His greatest love was of music and he was a self-taught guitarist. He was a member of the Canton Seniors and the Canton Community Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Guy is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Driscoll (Russell Shaw, Jr.) of Simsbury and Judy Mereschuk (Jeffrey Mereschuk) of Canton, his daughter-in-law Patricia Farrar of Vernon, four grandchildren David Driscoll, Richard Driscoll, Rev. Christopher Mereschuk and Julie Burke, nine great-grandchildren, his brothers Virgil Farrar of Concord, NC and Lewis Farrar of Simsbury, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son Randall O. Farrar and a brother Russell W. Farrar. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Avon Health Center for the extraordinary care that was given to “the harmonica man”. He will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at Canton Community Baptist Church on Sunday, April 30, at 2:30 p.m. with burial in Southwest Cemetery, Collinsville.
