William Philip Bors Sr. Obituary

William Philip Bors Sr., aged 63, Born Sept 17th 1953, of West Granby CT, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence on May 4th 2017. He leaves behind his mother Dorothy Berryhill Bors, Lulu his beloved wife, daughter Jennifer Bors Loomis, son William P. Bors Jr., siblings and their spouses: Paul Sr. and Elizabeth Bors, Terrell and Daniel McDonald, Christine and Robert Downey and Philip Jr. and Sabrena Bors; beloved aunts: Violet Bors Kyes and Martha Bors Apanovitch and many nieces and nephews: Travis, Rebecca, Michelle, Amy, Gabriel, Gina, Shannon, Paul Jr, Peter and Philip III.
William joined the US Air Force shortly after graduating High School. He was trained in Electronics and communications, and also served in the Vietnam conflict. While in the Air Force, he earned his pilots’ license and was an avid flyer and aviation aficionado for the remainder of his life. Flying was one of his true loves and passions.
After the Air Force he moved to Oklahoma where he attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics where he again studied aeronautics and electronics. Over the years he has worked a myriad of jobs from part time dirt farmer on the family farm, Welder at Electric Boat in Groton, Avionics Tech at Heart of Maine Aviation in Waterville ME, Engineer at Integrated Industrial Solutions in Wallingford, Aviation Tech for Canadair in Windsor Locks, Engineer-Salesman and Eventual Owner of Gamma Instruments in the Bay area of California and South Chicago IL. Most recently he worked as facilities manager and engineer for an orthotics company near Nashville TN. He made the decision to retire about a year ago and move back to CT so that he could be close to his family and old friends.
Throughout his life, Bill travelled across the country and throughout the World. He made friends wherever he went with his not so subtle charm, flair for sometimes being outlandish and unique/outgoing personality. He loved to entertain and have fun. Practically everywhere he lived, you could find him often at the local pub or at a party playing his guitar, singing Karaoke and sometimes showing off his own special derivative of a song … or one of his originals.
If you knew Bill, you know what a character he could be. Most often he was the center of attention, the life of the party. If you took the time to get to know him, and became his friend, you saw more of who he really was. A truly gifted person in many ways. A loving and caring person behind a sometimes gruff exterior. A true friend, someone you could rely on when things got tough. He will be sorely missed by all those that knew and loved him.
His family will receive friends at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Thursday, Mary 11th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 12th, at St. Patrick’s Church in Collinsville. Burial will be private.
