Obituary for Lois Mason

Lois (Fleischmann) Mason, 85, passed away peacefully on June 25, surrounded by her loving family. She touched the lives of everyone she met, and will be forever loved and remembered for her cheerful disposition, extraordinary kindness, fantastic mind, quick wit, and charitable nature.
Left to honor and cherish her memory is her loving husband of 56 years, and the love of her life, George L. Mason, III. Lois was the beloved mother of George L. Mason, IV, and his wife Crystian (Vilela) Mason of Worcester, MA; Margaret (Mason) Santhouse and her husband Timothy J. Santhouse of Wethersfield, CT; John J. Mason of Simsbury, CT; and Diana (Mason) DiTunno and her husband Joseph J. DiTunno of Southington, CT.
Always young at heart, “Nana” loved being surrounded by her grandchildren Cassandra M. Robinson, G. Lukas Mason, Matthew V. Mason, Natalie V. Mason, Sarah M. Santhouse, Alana G. Santhouse, and Tyler J. DiTunno. She was especially thrilled to meet her first great-grandson, Landon Robinson, last August.
In addition to her cherished grandchildren, Lois leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces, grandnephews, and countless friends who will all miss her dearly.
Born in New York City on March 30, 1932, Lois was the oldest child of the late Erhard Joseph and Margaret (Krell) Fleischmann, and sister of the late E. Joseph Fleischmann. She lived in Brooklyn and Larchmont before moving to Philadelphia with her father and brother in 1948.
After graduation from Immaculata University in 1953, she taught elementary school in Philadelphia and Allentown, and married George on July 1, 1961.
While raising her four children, she volunteered her time serving as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, substitute teacher, and Faith Formation Catechist for many years.
Lois continued her charitable service during their years in Connecticut as an active member of the Simsbury Women’s Club and St. Catherine of Siena Women’s Club. Further, she worked for the Second Chance Thrift Shop to support The Village for Families & Children for over 25 years.
Lois loved to travel whether by land, sea or air, and during their marriage was able to visit 39 states and 30 countries. Lois also enjoyed playing bridge throughout the years, and remained close friends with her fellow bridge club members.
Her life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am on July 8 at St. Catherine of Siena, 265 Stratton Brook Road, West Simsbury, CT.
Calling hours will be held immediately before, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT. The family prefers memorial donations to The Village for Families & Children, 1680 Albany Avenue, Hartford, CT 06105.
