Obituary for Alastair George Clark

Alastair George Clark, who died on September 2, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1929. For two years he served in the RAF on National Service, then graduated from Edinburgh University with First Class Honors in Chemistry. He received a diploma in brewing from Heriot Watt College. Alastair married Dorothy (Williams) in 1955 and they settled in England. They had two daughters, Kathleen and Fiona. During his career he worked with Whitbread's, Beecham's and Canada Dry in England. In 1974 he was recruited by Heublein in Connecticut, from where he retired. Alastair was an active member of Canton Center Congregational Church and, after retirement, spent nine years as a volunteer chaplain at Hartford Hospital. He was predeceased by daughter Kathleen and her partner Bob Lucas, sister Marjory Curtis, and brother-in-law John Duffus. Besides his wife Dorothy of Simsbury, he leaves behind his daughter Fiona and her husband David of West Hartford. Other surviving relatives include Justin, Shauna, Hayley and Zoe Friar of Southington, Christopher and Alison Friar of West Hartford, sister-in-law Hazel Duffus of Edinburgh, his nephews and their families, and Alison Eads of Maine. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017, 11 a.m. at Canton Center Congregational Church, 184 Cherry Brook Road, Canton Center, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in his name to a charity of your choice.
