Paul E. Herbert, 80 of New Hartford passed away peacefully in the familiar comfort of his own home after a long and lingering illness. Paul is survived by his children, Julie Wiles and her husband Mark of Canton, his son Robert of Kauai and their mother, Susan Celentano of Simsbury. He is also survived by his three grandchildren who named him and knew him as Poppie; Zachary and Griffin Wiles and Targhee Herbert. Paul was proud to be an April fool, born on April 1st, 1937 in Dearborn, Michigan to Bernard and Catherine Herbert. He graduated from Dearborn HS and The University of Michigan with a degree in Architecture. While working for the Taubman Company, Paul moved his family from Dearborn to Simsbury to work on the construction of West Farms Mall. In the flowing years he founded and ran two successful business; Herbert and Boghosian in Simsbury and Paul Herbert Woodworking in Torrington. Paul's many passions included good food, travel, sailing and golf. He had an unmatched eye for design, construction, style and decorating. He loved collecting antiques from all over the world with a special eye for rusty metal. His home was a shining example of his talents and anyone who ever visited left with a new appreciation for the finer things in life. Above everything else, Paul was an avid gardener who actually enjoyed weeding. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Cherry Brook Health Care Center and the Foothills Visiting Nurse and Hospice. Above all others, we would like to thank the special ladies who cared for and helped look after Paul over the last few years. You were his and our support, his and our companions and forever his and our friends. Calling hours are scheduled for Saturday, September 16th from 12 to 2 PM at Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Tpke., in Canton. All are invited to come and celebrate Paul's life.
