Obituary for Michael Joseph Jepeal
Deputy Chief Michael Joseph Jepeal, 63, of Tariffville, beloved husband of the late Joan (Dahms) Jepeal, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017. He was born on June 20, 1954, in Hartford, CT, son of the late Henry and Mary (Corona) Jepeal. Deputy Chief Jepeal began his firefighting service with the Tariffville Volunteer Fire Company which eventually merged with the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company, and has put in over 40 years of service ending his career with this current position of Deputy Chief. He also was an instructor for the Hartford County Fire School where he became the Co-Director of Training, an instructor for 23 years at the Connecticut Fire Academy where he had the privilege to teach many recruit classes and was recognized in 2001 for Instructor of the Year. Most recently Mike worked in the certification division of the Commission on Fire Prevention and Control. With the many years of service, Mike has been instrumental in the service provided to CT Fire Services today. In addition to firefighting, Mike was also an avid boater, small business owner and certified operator for the Tariffville Water Company. He is survived by a son, Michael J. J. Jepeal of Philadelphia, PA; his five siblings, Karen Landsberg and partner Bob Tetrault, Susan Jepeal, Andrew Jepeal and his wife Lisa, Peter Jepeal and his wife Karen, and James Jepeal and his wife Joanne Gundersen; several nieces and nephews, Jonathan Landsberg, Daniel Jepeal, Nicole Jepeal, Stephen Jepeal, Eric Jepeal, and Kevin Jepeal; and his brothers and sisters of the CT Fire Service. Relatives and friends may join the family for calling hours on Sunday, October 1st from 12 to 6 p.m. at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury. A graveside service for friends and family will be held on Monday, October 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at Simsbury Cemetery.
