Elinor R. McGarr (Adler) of Simsbury, CT born on February 23, 1930 passed away after a long illness on September 23, 2017. Elinor was born and raised in New York and was the daughter of the late Charles and Vivian Adler. She was the beloved wife of her high school sweetheart, the late James McGarr. They married on February 28, 1951 and remained married for 64 years.

Elinor was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was time spent with family. Elinor moved often due to her husband’s career and took pride in making every house a beautiful home. She was very active and enjoyed bridge, landscaping/gardening, watching her children and grandchildren in sporting events and she loved shopping with and for her family. She also enjoyed quiet activities such as reading and crossword puzzles. Elinor was always there for her family and will be so missed by all she touched.

Elinor is survived by her four children, James J McGarr Jr of Suffield, CT and his husband, Dr. Mark Spencer; Stephen McGarr of Mooresville, NC and his wife Jennifer; Mary McGarr of Feeding Hills, MA; and Carolyn Lee and her husband Daniel Lee of Simsbury, CT. Elinor’s infant daughter, Kathleen Ann, predeceased her. Elinor is also survived by her seven grand children: Kathleen Lee, Christopher Lee and Nicholas Lee, Michael Mead, Timothy Mead, Michael McGarr and Marissa McGarr - all who cherished their “Gramma”. She was predeceased by her sisters, Jeanne and Lucille.

Elinor’s family would like to express gratitude to the caring staff at McLean of Simsbury, CT.

The family will hold a private burial on Saturday, September 30, 2017.
