Carol Rogers (Plona)
Carol Ann (Plona) Rogers of Wethersfield, beloved wife and best friend of H. Stephen Rogers passed away October 26, 2017. Born in Hartford, on March 28, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Lois (Zavalick) Plona and the late Edward R. Plona of Simsbury. She graduated from the Henry James Memorial High School in Simsbury, Class of 1965, and Vermont College. Carol Ann was employed by Clinical Laboratory Partners and Hartford Hospital for 40 years and very much enjoyed her specialty as a technician in neurohistology. She was a communicant of The Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield and a member of the Women's Club and Garden Ministry. As a Master Consulting Rosarian; Horticultural Judge for the American Rose Society, and long time member of the Connecticut Rose Society, Carol Ann enjoyed speaking and writing about rose culture, as well as, health and safety issues pertaining to rose gardening. She enjoyed being invited to judge rose shows throughout New England. She was also an avid embroiderer and early American decorative artist, and for years exhibited at the Durham Fair. Carol Ann truly loved animals, many times protecting wild creatures in need of help, and enjoyed teaching her beloved grandchildren about the wonders of nature.
Beside her husband of 44 years, Carol Ann leaves a daughter, Lorissa Heath of Southington; three grandchildren; Katrina Rose, Emily Rae and Jackson David; an uncle Thaddeus “Ted” Zavalick, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may pay their respects from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 1st at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 2nd at St. Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Tariffville.
