Obituary for Agnes H. Looney (Wagner)

Agnes “Aggie” H. Looney, 94, of Granby, beloved wife of the late Edward T. Looney, died peacefully December 5, 2017 at Meadowbrook of Granby surrounded by her loving family. Born December 7, 1922, in Plantersville, TX, the daughter of the late Simon and Katherine (Komar) Wagner, proud immigrants from Germany and Hungary. Agnes met Edward on a blind date and they married in 1950. Agnes devoted her life to making a warm and loving home for her family and raising their five children. She was active in Scouting, myriad school activities and anything which supported her family. Moving a number of times for Edward’s work, she resided in Wheaton, IL before moving to Simsbury in 1972 and Granby in 2004. She enjoyed working for the Catholic Transcript in Hartford and Bloomfield for many years before retiring in 2005. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury. Agnes enjoyed gardening, golfing and traveling with Edward but her greatest joy was her large, extended family. She was blessed with many visitors during her time at Meadowbrook which brought her great joy and comfort.
She is survived by her five children and sons and daughter-in-law, Edward and Joan Looney of West Hartford, Katherine and Bruce Lukasik of Chicago, IL, Donna and John McGlynn of Norfolk, VA, Patricia Looney of Simsbury, and Gayle Weber of Katy, TX. Agnes is also survived by her sister, Amelia Burke of Rosenberg, TX. Her nine cherished grandchildren were the light of her life; David Lukasik and wife Amy, Melissa Erdman and her husband Mark, Christopher, Kate, Anne and Mary Looney, Erin, Reagan and Reid Weber. She was blessed with seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Agnes was predeceased by Edward, her husband of 55 years, who died May 4, 2006. She was predeceased by her siblings, Freddie, Joe, Johnny, Rev. Ben Wagner, OMI, Verna Gobar and Elizabeth Lindley. She was also predeceased by her beloved grandson, Trent Weber. Agnes and the Looney family were fortunate to have the loving help of Valtina Thorpe who lived with Agnes for four years.
Relatives and friends may gather for calling hours on Thursday, December 14th from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. Funeral will be Friday, December 15th, 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Agnes’s memory to St. Mary’s School, 946 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, CT 06070.
