Florence “Floss” Prior Lane, 92, of Simsbury, beloved wife of 50 years of the late Norris John Lane, died Friday, December 15, 2017. She was born July 7, 1925, in Paterson, NJ; daughter of the late Harry and Nellie (Colton) Knapp. At a young age she moved to Manchester, CT and graduated from Manchester High School. She worked several years at an Insurance Co. in Hartford. Soon after marrying Norris they moved to Simsbury CT and lived in the same home for over 65 years. She enjoyed many Carver Circle Picnics, going to Fitzies, raising her two boys, and her passion for gardening, in particular Daylilies.
At the age of 60 she went to work outside of the house as a sales clerk at her favorite store Sage Allen and retired when they closed at age 68. Up until this time Norris was the chauffeur. When he started getting ill she decided to learn to drive and got her driver's license at the age of 72, taught herself financial investing and always enjoyed talking politics. She was a long time member of the First Church of Christ, Simsbury, The Red Hat Society, Simsbury Garden Club, the Grandbees Quilting Club, Carver Circle Lunch Bunch, and an accomplished cook and baker. She was also a founding member of the CT Daylily Society and a 12th generation descendant of William Brewster of the Mayflower.
Florence is survived by her two sons, Gregory C. Lane of Glastonbury, CT, Richard N. Lane and his wife Betsy of Pepperell, MA. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren; Nicole of Leonia, NJ, Cameron and Parker of Pepperell, MA; Colton and Evan of Glastonbury, CT. Also surviving is her sister Elsie Brady and niece Roblee Thiesse of Tehachapi, CA.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, CT. A reception will follow. Burial will be private. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to “Hospice Gift” at,
