Obituary for Audrey Giroux Baker

Audrey Giroux Baker
Audrey G. Baker, formerly of Avon, Simsbury, and Canton Center, passed from this world with dignity and grace on December 18, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital. She was born on September 18, 1923 at Dunolly in Tuftonboro, NH, and was raised in Lexington, MA by the late Archibald and Audrey (MacDougall) Giroux. Much later in life, Audrey returned to her hometown to work as an Executive Secretary at Kennecott Copper’s Ledgemont Laboratories, and subsequently at Aetna Realty in Hartford. In both places, she readily earned the respect and affection of her business associates, as well as warm personal relationships that have never waned.
Audrey is survived by 4 sons (and spouses): Walter Jr. (Ana) of Quepos, Costa Rica; John (Cynthia) of Avon; Robert (Virginia) of South Deerfield, MA; and David (Carol) of Sebastian, FL; as well as 9 grand-children (and spouses): Michael (Jacqueline) and Alexander; James and Devon; Bethany (Tim) and Christopher (Linet); and Sarah (Keith), Alana, and Ari; as well as 10 great-grand-children: Ariana, Sebastian, and Matthew; Fiora, Declan, and John; Sam, Eli, and Remy; and Savannah. Audrey was pre-deceased by both of her brothers (and spouses): Ernest (Dorothy) Giroux of Lexington and Robert (Cleo) Giroux of New Ipswich, NH; but also is respectively survived by their present widows: Pamela Giroux of Newport, RI and Betty Giroux of Port Clyde, ME.
Audrey always will be remembered for her devotion to family, passion for reading, exquisite gardens, delicious dinner parties, her Red Sox jersey, Betty and her daughters, sunsets over Winnipesaukee, and fresh mint in your iced tea. She was loving but direct with both youngsters and oldsters, and always said exactly what was on her mind. Today, that probably would have been “Ever onward, my Dear, ever onward”.
At the family’s request, funeral services and interment at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA will be private events assisted by the Vincent Funeral Home in Canton, CT. When gardens bloom in May, family and friends will gather in CT for a Celebration of Life in Audrey’s memory. To share your thoughts and condolences, please visit us @ www.vincentfuneralhome.com . The family also thanks Patricia Green and Sache Riley of Bloomfield, CT, as well as the staffs of Governor’s House in Simsbury, CT (esp. Charity and Marcia, Tanya Hawkins and Lauren Marino) and of Masonicare Partners in East Hartford, CT (esp. Reagan Howard and Kim Hull) for their sweet kindness, steadfast support, and loving care of Audrey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Audrey’s honor to Saint Alban’s Episcopal Church in Simsbury, CT or to Masonicare Partners or to any Public Library of personal choice.
