Obituary for Joan "Terry" Theresa DeWeese

Joan Theresa “Terry” DeWeese, 71, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 21, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. Born in New Haven, CT to the late James Brennan and the late Eve (Welch) Stutzman, Terry resided in New Haven, Granby, and Farmington, Connecticut. The last several years, she resided at Amberwoods of Farmington, a skilled nursing facility where she received loving care.
Terry attended St. Mary’s High School in New Haven, and Quinnipiac College. She was a kind soul, a dedicated mother, and devoted to her faith. She loved books, music, and poetry; she had a sweet smile and a ready laugh, and she loved to sing. Some of her fondest memories included hiking in the McLean Game Refuge and dramatic recitation of poetry memorized thanks to her fifth-grade teacher Miss Esposito.
Survivors include her son Charles (Raakel) DeWeese Jr. of Brooklyn, NY; daughter Katherine DeWeese of Santa Rosa, CA; and grandchildren Rebekah DeWeese and Zoe & Lucy DeWeese-Sund, as well as her former spouse Charles (Rhonda) DeWeese. She also left behind sisters Christine Stangeland of San Pedro, CA and Nancy (Bill) Felenchak of Willow Park, TX; brother Jan Brennan of Dover, NH; and many nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful for the special care provided by Amberwoods and Masonicare. A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Contributions can be made in her memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society via would be sincerely appreciated.
