Obituary for Diane Appold (Best)

Diane was born on Long Island, where she learned the value of family and how to mispronounce words like coffee. She spent her youth swimming in the ocean and shoving soap suds into her younger sister’s face. She agreed to marry Wayne, even though he originally proposed with a Cracker Jack prize ring. They had two children, Jessica and Ryan, whom she swore she loved more than life itself but promptly deprioritized once she became a Nana to Melissa, Colin, and Grayson.
Diane lived in Avon since 1987. She was the kind of mother who helped look for worms in the rain and yelled, “Hot dog!” when she lost in Mario Brothers. She was the kind of mother who pretended to like Mario Brothers. She was a fantastic baker and never minded if a young assistant spilled flour on the floor. She enjoyed working at the bank because her mind was made for numbers. She often balanced elderly customers’ checkbooks in the evening just because she knew she could help. She loved hummingbirds, beach vacations, and reading fiction on Sundays. If she loved you, she probably made you a basket. If you were motherless, or lonely, or in need of some warmth, she definitely loved you.
Diane died surrounded by family on January 23, at age 67. She is survived by countless loved ones who were not ready to say goodbye. Remember her by planting flowers in the spring, and by loving others as much as they need.
