Obituary for William George Besler Gardner

William “Bill” Gardner, 86, of Simsbury, beloved husband of Barbara “Babs” Gardner, passed away peacefully March 7, 2018. He was the son of the late Harold and Helen Gardner. A 57-year Simsbury resident, Bill proudly served on many boards and commissions over the years, as well as chairman of the Republican Town Committee. A Princeton alumnus, he worked for nearly 40 years at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT. Bill was a very active parishioner and member of First Church of Christ Simsbury. He also was a long-time member of the Mayflower Society and National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. An enthusiastic skier, Bill enjoyed ski trips with his family. His deep enjoyment and extensive knowledge of classical music began with a childhood record collection.
In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, he is survived by three children, Lynn and her husband Michael; Anne and her husband Richard; and Elizabeth. He also has two grandchildren, Gwen and her husband Michael; and Ross and his wife Margaret. Bill was predeceased by his siblings Annajane, Brooks, and Jane.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 28th at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
