Obituary for Gordon Davidson Duff

Gordon Davidson Duff, 60, of Simsbury, beloved husband of Sandra Raemsch Duff, died suddenly Sunday, April 15, 2018. He was born on December 6, 1957, in Hartford, the son of William K. Duff and Shirley Cross Duff of Lexington, MA. Gordon lived most of his life in Simsbury.

He was an alumnus of Tilton Academy in New Hampshire and Lehigh University, where he studied History, one of his many passions. Gordon was a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity.

Gordon was a Manufacturing Sales Representative for his family business, William K. Duff & Company. He was a founding member of the American Society for Metals Heat Treating Society and received a Silver Certificate recognizing his 25 years of continuous membership with ASM International. His outgoing personality, wit, humor, and ability to connect with everyone made him the successful businessman he was.

His zest for learning translated into his career and how he lived his life. Gordon loved his family deeply and was a gift to those who were fortunate enough to know him. Gordon was an automotive enthusiast and history buff who enjoyed gardening and working in the yard. He loved New England sports teams, especially the Boston Bruins, New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He was an avid reader and enjoyed engineering and the arts. His love and knowledge of any music genre were unsurpassed. He was a true Renaissance man.

Gordon is survived by his children, Alexandra Paige Duff of New York City and Los Angeles, CA; Morgan Henry Duff of Washington, DC and Tyler Reid Duff of Simsbury; sisters, Marcie D. Troisi and her husband Nicholas of Winchester, MA and Janet D. McCue and her husband David of Manchester by the Sea, MA; and his in laws and extended family, Henry and Eleanore Raemsch of Rumson, NJ, Denise and Walter Sawyer of North Carolina, Jennifer and Bill Tracy of New Jersey, Lisa and Jay Garsman of New Jersey, and Andrew and Ondrej Raemsch of New York City.

A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held Sunday, April 22 at Hill-Stead Museum (35 Mountain Road, Farmington, CT 06032) from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask that memorial donations be made in the form of a check to the Forman School (12 Norfolk Road, P.O.
