Obituary for Columbine M. "Sis" Kulikowski (Mangine)

Columbine “Sis” (Mangine) Kulikowski died peacefully on April 19, 2018 at the Avon Health Center in Avon, Connecticut. Sis was born on August 22, 1921 in Middletown, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Alexander and Rose (Zampini) Mangine. Shortly after her marriage, she and her husband Joseph moved to Avon, where they lived for over 56 years. While raising her four children, Sis worked as a part time teller at Northwest Community Bank, and then full time as the bookkeeper for the Avon Public Schools. She enjoyed visiting with neighbors, taking long walks, knitting and cooking. She was a dedicated member of the Church of St. Ann in Avon for over 60 years, serving as a founding member of the Mothers’ Circle, and a volunteer on the church newsletter committee. After her husband passed, Sis lived for several years at the Boulder Ridge Apartments in Canton, before moving to River Ridge Assisted Living in Avon, and then to the Avon Health Center.
Sis is survived by her sister, Mother Mary Louis of Vale, North Carolina, as well as by her children Ann Barrett of Winsted, CT, Joan Kulikowski and her partner Robert Hoernke of Archdale, North Carolina, Paul Kulikowski of Burlington, CT, and James Kulikowski of Winfield, Illinois. She also leaves seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends including many valued nurses and caregivers. Sis is pre-deceased by her husband Joseph Kulikowski, her twin sister Rita Kondracky, her brother John Mangine, and her sister Mary Anne Mangine.
Family and friends may call on Monday, April 23rd from 3:00PM - 6:00PM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Tpke, Canton, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 24th at 10:00AM at The Church of St. Ann, 289 Arch Rd, Avon, CT. Interment will take place immediately following the St. Ann Cemetery on Arch Road. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to The Maryvale Sisters, 2522 June Bug Road, Vale, North Carolina 28168.
