Obituary for Richard Anthony Zommer

Richard Anthony Zommer, 70, of Canton, beloved husband of Anne (Johnson) Zommer, died peacefully Sunday, June 3, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was born July 30, 1947 in Hartford, son of the late Theodore Anthony and Helen Margaret (Morgan) Zommer, and had lived in Canton his entire life. Richard was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served in the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged as Corporal. Mr. Zommer was a Licensed HVAC Plumber for 40 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the North Canton Methodist Church, the American Legion Post# 0090 of Collinsville, the Gildo T. Consolini VFW Post 3272 in Avon, the Canton & Collinsville Fire Department, the Canton Fire Police and was a Canton Town Constable for many years. Richard enjoyed spending time with his grandson, volunteering for the community, playing cribbage and collecting coins. He spent many good times with his best friends, Michael Erwin and Steve Forker.

In addition to his wife of 46 years, he is survived by his son, Neil Zommer and his wife Beth of Canton; his sister, Nancy Anastos and her husband Thomas of Thornton, CO; his brothers-in-law, Norman Johnson and his wife Beth of Canton and Gilbert Johnson and his wife Cynthia of Colebrook; his beloved grandson, Tyler A. Zommer, many nieces and nephews and many good friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Darrell A. Stevens, daughter, Barbara A. Zommer and his step mother, Florence Zommer.

The family will receive friends at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Saturday, June 16th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A memorial service with military honors will close the visitation, starting at 3:00 PM. Family and Friends will gather at Ellsworth Hall, 14 Canton Springs Rd, Canton, CT 06019 to celebrate his life following the service.
