To the Family and Friends of Donald Holtman,
I am very sorry for your loss. I was very grieved to learn of Donald’s Death. Though I didn’t know him personally, he was an important part of my support system.
I met Donald in the late sixties when I was a long-haired young hippie looking mother of 3 small children, who drove a Volkswagen minibus and found herself wrongly accused of a hit and run car accident. Shocked and confused about what to do, I called a number of lawyers. Donald was one of them. He was very kind and though didn’t know me, he spent over a half hour outlining my options and letting me know what was likely to happen with each one. I left my conversation with him feeling calmer and clearer. From that moment on, I was a fan.
Through the years, he has been my personal lawyer and has handled my affairs with skill, reason, and most important of all, with integrity. When I think about Donald, integrity is the character strength that first comes to mind, along with honesty, humor, kindness and a quiet charm.
Professionally, when I became a psychotherapist and was working with clients with legal issues I began to refer them to Donald. Before they went to see him, I would say to them: “When you go see Donald, you need to be well rested and take a pad of paper and pencil because he will give you a lot of information.” Without exception, my clients left his office feeling as I did after that first telephone conversation many years earlier… calmer and clearer and with the knowledge and legal support they needed to move forward in a good way.
So though Donald was not part of my personal everyday life, knowing that this very solid, trustworthy man was on the planet made it feel like a better place. Now that he’s no longer here, I keenly feel the loss of him.
With warm regards,
Joan Miller
