Condolences

Condolence From: Linda Pearson
Condolence: I am shocked and saddened to hear of Suzie’s death. We were childhood friends who reconnected in our early years of marriage. Two memories are very special to me. In the first I had gone to their beach house to watch a preseason football game that my husband was playing in. West Hartford stations were not carrying the game but the southern part of the state was. When we got to her house it wasn’t on there either so we drove to Yale and each nursed one beer while we sat at a bar watching the entire game. We had to stop for coffee to keep her awake on the drive home. Later when my husband had moved before me when I was quite pregant, I looked up in surprise as I was shoveling my driveway in a snowstorm to see Suzie and Tom pull up with shovels to dig me out. Such a lovely woman! As I read all of the tributes I know she will be sorely missed.

Condolence From: Ellie Hirsh
Condolence: I'm deeply saddened by the passing of Susie - actually I alternate between sadness and shock. I've been reviewing in my head the experiences we shared over the years - Syracuse, Amsterdam, DC and even her visit to me in St. Croix. They were long ago - but somehow just yesterday. Wonderful times. Distance and time kept us away. A few years ago we reconnected in DC with Niki. It was great to get together. It was amazing that Susie flew in just for lunch! Sometimes it happens when you get together with certain people that the connections are still there even when time and space have separated you - this was one of those moments. It's a fabulous feeling - and it doesn't happen with everyone, only with those who you feel a deep simpatico. We had great plans - we were going to meet up for a week on St. Croix or again somewhere in the states. And actually, my husband and I were planning to drive in early September from New York to Boston and planned on calling and stopping by on our way. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma was heading our way and we had to hurry back home to board up.

I think I will always regret those missed opportunities - but never regret having had Susie as a friend. Her warmth, caring, her ability to listen, her smile - and of course her boundless energy will be missed but will always remain in my heart.

My condolences to Tom and the rest of Susie's family
Sending love and hugs,
Ellie

Condolence From: Heidi Dube
Condolence: No doubt the next few months and years will be full of stories just like ours, nonetheless...Sue was there at a difficult time in our lives, and she showed up - heart and soul - every day for my daughter, Maya. She was a light-giver, and will continue to shine through the love she showed her students.
May memories and stories, continue to bring her close.
With great sorrow,
Heidi Dube

Condolence From: Susan Cardwell
Condolence: I had the privilege of assisting in Sue's classroom and it was such a pleasure getting to know her and learn from her wisdom. She was a gifted teacher and touched so many young lives in beautiful ways. Sue will be greatly missed! Condolences to her beloved family. I will be praying for you all.
