Obituary for Mary E. Miklave (Byron)

Mary E. Byron Miklave, 92, of Canton, wife of the late Frank John Miklave, died Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Governor's House in Simsbury. She was born September 25, 1925 in Acton, MA, daughter of the late Charles and Ella (Hoffman) Byron. Mary came to Hartford for a two-week visit in 1943 and stayed in the area for the next 75 years. Formerly the head of millinery (women’s hats) for G. Fox & Company, Mary worked as a night secretary on a teaching floor at Hartford Hospital and later as a Discharge Planning Clerk for the hospital prior to her retirement. As a result of her experiences on the hospital’s teaching floor, she proudly claimed the moniker “Doctor Zhivago.” She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Collinsville and a life-long avid Red Sox Fan.
Books were a passion for her and her interests included historical biographies, philosophy and science, political drama and murder mysteries. Mary loved her Sunshine Villa, Paris, a particular bend on the River Thames in Windsor, England, her special slot machine at Mohegan Sun, PBS Masterpiece Mystery, and her Kindle.
She is survived by her three children, Paula Miklave of Manchester, NH, Peter Miklave and his wife Sharon of Canton and Matthew Miklave and his wife Sandra of Norwalk; her grandchildren, Kyle Miklave of Farmington and Alexander, Christopher and Nicholas Miklave of Norwalk; her goddaughter, Judy Cantwell of Canton and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 31 years, Mary was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Lunney, and three brothers, Walter, Charles and Francis.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Monday, August 13th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 14th, at St. Patrick's Church in Collinsville. A private burial will beheld on a subsequent date.
