Obituary for Philip Janes

Philip  Janes
Philip Matheson Janes, 78, of Granby, died Saturday, September 22, 2018. He was born December 31, 1939 in Hartford, son of the late Harold A.L. and Susan (Matheson) Janes and had lived in Bloomfield, Simsbury and most recently in Granby. Philip had a passion for music and art having owned the Philip Janes Gallery in Granby and the Arts Exclusive Gallery in Simsbury.
Philip enjoyed helping people and was a very caring individual. Earlier in his life, Philip served as a Peace Corps volunteer from 1963 to 1967, spending most of his time in Southeast Asia. He then worked for CARE as an Administrator from 1967 to 1974 working in Africa, India and the Middle East. Most recently, he was a volunteer and Board member of both the Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra and CASAC.
He is survived by his brother Kip Janes and wife Elisa of Seminole, FL; nephew Robert K. Janes, Jr. and wife Jenell of Old Lyme, CT; niece Sarah Wilkinson and husband Kevin of New Hartford, CT; great nephews Robert “Bob)” K. Janes, III and wife Lauren of East Hartford CT; William “Bill” Janes of Old Lyme CT, and Ryan Wilkinson of New Hartford, CT, as well as his cousin Steven Thomas and wife Ingrid of Cincinnati, OH.

There are no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra is dedicating their first concert of the season to Philip. The concert will be held on October 27th at 4:30. Please join family and friends for this performance. Visit the website (www.fvso.org ) to purchase tickets or to donate in Philip’s name. Donations in Philip’s name will be applied towards the endowment of “The Philip Janes Memorial Conductor’s Chair”.
