Obituary for Ronald L. Leonard

Ronald Leonard, beloved husband of Linda (Wandrak), passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones after a lengthy battle with CLL. Ron was born in New Britain, the son of the late Leslie and Sophie Leonard. He was 82 years old.

Ron was a UConn Graduate with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After serving in the Navy, Ron was employed by Pratt and Whitney Machine Tool and Goss and DeLeeuw until retirement. He was known for his ability to solve any problem from the control systems at his work to the more domestic systems at home.

Ron instilled a love for the Boston Red Sox in his two children and five grandchildren. He also spent many hours enjoying college basketball, with March Madness having been observed as a National holiday.

Ron met the love of his life as a young officer in the U.S. Navy. They were married for over 50 years. Their marriage was a model of love and devotion.

Ron is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Laurie Gammons, her husband Scott and their three children, Parker, Sophia and Colin, who reside in South Carolina; his son, Gregory Leonard, his wife Jessica and their two children, Eagan and Logan, who reside in Canton; his sisters, Lois Blessing and Sharon Shahuerdian and husband Arthur; his brothers-in-law, George Wandrak and wife Mary Ann and George Larson and several nieces and nephews.

Ron was known for his unconditional love of family. Everyone who met him had their lives made better by the experience. He always had time to have a catch with his son and grandsons, instilling in them a love of the sport. He always made time to talk to his children and grandchildren, in person or on FaceTime. He was our rock and comfort.
The family wishes to thank the nurses at the infusion center of Starling in Wethersfield. Your kindness and support over the last 10 years meant everything to us.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 3rd from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton closing with a Celebration of his Life at 11:00 AM. Donations in his memory may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, PO Box 22324, New York, New York, 10087. Please visit Ron’s “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
