Obituary for Edward Zionce

Edward Zionce, 93, of Burlington, husband of the late Florence (Konopka) Zionce, died Saturday, July 23, 2011 at The Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canaan. He was born November 13, 1917 in Burlington, son of the late Joseph and Katherine (Kochan) Zionce and had lived in Burlington for over 60 years. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division. He entered active service in 1942, and served in several European Campaigns. He was awarded the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars along with other military decorations. He worked for Connecticut Spring as a setup man until his retirement in 1983. Ed was a member of the Gildo Consolini VFW Post in Avon, the America Legion, the Purple Heart Association and St. Patrick's Church in Collinsville. He is survived by his son Richard and daughter-in-law Jo Ann Gundlach of Norfolk, his daughter, Barbara Zionce of Easton; his sister, Josephine Konopka of Burlington; his brother-in-law, John Kostrisak of Avon, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Jennie Kostrisak and three brothers, Stanley, Walter and John. Ed is remembered by his family as an avid Red Sox fan and someone who enjoyed mowing the lawn and listening to polkas.
There are no calling hours. Graveside service and burial will be Wednesday, July 27, 11 A.M. at Calvary Cemetery, Collins Road in Collinsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 99 South Canaan Road, Canaan, CT 06018.
