Condolence From: Summer Place
Condolence: Craig, as a fellow Summer Place staff member, I had no idea you were experiencing such a trying time at any point during the summer or these past few years. I am so incredibly sorry for the loss of your incredible wife Karin. As I was reading her blog today, I was moved to tears by her outlook on life in the face of disease and by her love for you and your dog, Sammy. As someone who has recently suffered a loss, I have found comfort in these words and pray they ease your suffering in some small way: "You can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left. Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she’s gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she’d want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on." Sending prayers to you, your family, your Sammydog, and all of those who were fortunate enough to linger in Karin's beautiful light.

Condolence From: Tammy
Condolence: I've been crying all morning for someone I never met, never talked to - someone who doesn't know me, but someone I feel I know intimately just from the words she has written. I followed Karin's blog from the start - when I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's within a month of Karin's diagnosis. I feel like we have gone through this together. I feel like I know the whole family, Craig, and Sammy as if they were my family. So, I say to my Internet family, "I love you all" and to Karin - "You will always be in my heart and like Craig said, "good-bye for now". I hope to meet you for real in the next life.

Our hearts go out to her sister who donated her stem cells, her parents, all of her family, friends, Craig and Sammy-dog. Through her amazing writing and ability to share her feelings, Karin left a beautiful gift behind.

Condolence: Dear Craig and family, I have been watching a monarch caterpillar for two weeks now grow and become a chrysalis. Amazingly, Sunday a beautiful butterfly emerged and opened its wings to the world. I know now that it is Karin entering her new life - still giving joy to others as only Karin can and at peace with the world.

Condolence From: Rebecca Reaves
Condolence: Craig, Sammy, and family- I cannot thank you enough for sharing Karin with the rest of us. At a time when dealing with so much anxiety, pain, confusion, and suffering there she was.....the bright light to lift everyones spirits allowing us into her personal world. We've prayed, cried, pleaded for a miracle. She always took it a step beyond and did everything in her power to see whatever clinical trial, transfusion, etc could help somebody else kick cancers a$$. Most importantly she did it with grace, dignity, sarcasm, and with the Love of her family right by her side. Although I am a complete stranger I would log into her site every night like a kid at Christmas hoping that whatever trial she succumbed her body to that it was going to be the final cure the Doctors needed to stop this disease in its tracks. She is and always will be remembered for her strong determination, bubbly spirit, and perserverance even when she herself didnt realize what she was getting herself into as long as it made a difference in someone elses life. My heart bleeds for all of you and for her. She didnt deserve this- you all dont deserve this. Noone deserves this. I will continue to pray that God comforts you during this most difficult time and just know you all are an amazing family and she is an amazing girl. To Karin- you have no idea what you have done for so many people that have never met you! You dove into unchartered territories head first without blinking an eye. You have lifted millions of people up with your rants and raves and crazy stories. You are loved, respected, admired, and adored but most importantly you are missed. Shine on Crazy Diamond and take these broken wings and learn to fly again- learn to live so free. xoxo

Condolence: I began reading Karin's blog about four months after I was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2012. Her website was and is still bookmarked on my laptop, and every day I would check for new posts, even when I was in the hospital. That's how inspiring and encouraging Karin's words and her life were-- I, a complete stranger, was drawn by the powerful impact she was able to make with her writing. Even though our experiences with cancer have been different, there were familiar emotions and thoughts she shared that made me feel less alone. I am deeply saddened that she no longer alive to write more, but what she has written will continue to touch others in ways she never would have even imagined. Thank you, Karin, for the honor and privilege of following your story, and for making this whole cancer journey feel less isolating. Rest in peace. Thank you to the Diamond family for updating her website and letting us into your lives during this heartbreaking time. My deepest condolences to you all. May you feel her love in every ray of sunshine and every happy memory. Best to you all.
