Condolence From: David Kingsley '64
Condolence: Dear Patty and family, I heard of Dorn's death not so long ago through Tim Grodrian, who got the information from his son who was working with Dorn on a composition for trombone. It was with great sadness that we got this news. Dorn was a wonderful friend who gave much more joy to me than I was ever able to return. Not so long ago (well after he was diagnosed) we had a wonderful conversation about politics on the phone. He was mentally sharp, and full of laughter and fun. He suggested that what the world really needed was much more leadership from women. Over the past 5,000 years he noted that men have only managed to totally muck up the planet with selfish schemes, and ultimately leave everyone worse off than when they started. My most enjoyable time with the "Men of Note" was at our 2004 reunion. Dorn stood two singers over from me, and started giving Frank a hard time. The longer it went on, the better it got. I close to passed away from the laughter, and actually had to get down from the risers at one point because I was laughing so hard. He was just magnificent. It should be noted that all of that mirth resulted, in the end. in the wonderful collaboration between the Younger and Jacobs families, which brought so much joy to so many. Another pleasing memory is that of Dorn during our return to campus for the 25th MON Reunion Concert. He was rewarded by the audience for his return and role as the Founding Director by the chants of "Dorn, Dorn, Dorn!" He was so gracious and kind. I was glad to hear that another of the original "Men of Note," Paul Shimer and his wife, were able to be with you for the celebration of Dorn's life - so well lived. Judy and I send all of our love and prayers for you and your family. Blessings, David Kingsley, '64 Men of Note

Condolence: To Patti, Karen and Kristin, We are so sincerely sorry for your loss. My dad and mom loved Dorn so very much. We are all so saddened by the loss of such a great man with a wonderful sense of humor and contagious laugh. His love of life was fantastic and his love of music was only bested by his love for his family. We will see you all at the service and offer hugs and love then as well. With love and understanding, Greg, Kate, Tracey, Rocky and Dad and all the kids (just too many to list :0) )
