Joan Mary (Eckert) Young. 74, of Simsbury, beloved wife of the late Merl D. Young, died Friday, October 23, 2015 at Apple Rehab in Avon. She was born November 4, 1940 in South Windsor, daughter of the late Rudolph C. & Katherine (Griffin) Eckert and had lived in Simsbury for 24 years. She also spent 18 years in Hillsville, VA before moving back to Simsbury. Mrs. Young was a Customer Service Representative for Wachovia Bank in Roanoke, VA prior to her retirement. She was a fan of UCONN Basketball, enjoyed country and western music, going to tag sales, animals of all kinds, especially horses, and loved her afternoon gatherings with her friends at Belden Court.

She is survived by her three sons, David Balsewicz of West Springfield, MA, Donald Balsewicz and his wife Laura of New Hartford and Keith Balsewicz and his wife Anne of Simsbury; her step children, Duane Young, Bruce Young, Gordon Young and Cindy Lemire; her grandchildren, Sara, Aleksander, Michelle, Jennifer, Valerie, David, Steven, Tyler, Christa, Lisa, Amy and Alaister; her great grandchildren, Tristan, Alana, Guerin, Haley, Charlotte, Spencer and Aaliyah; her sister, Patricia Kruger and Jeff Lupa of Windsor Locks; her sister-in-law, Zena Eckert of Dallas, TX and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John Eckert.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Thursday, October 29th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be at the funeral home on Friday, October 30th at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery.
