Obituary for Eileen H. Adams

Eileen (Holmes) Adams, 85, of Centerport, NY, beloved wife of William Adams, died Saturday, February 6, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. She was born March 10, 1930 in Glendale, NY, daughter of the late John and Julia (Ryan) Holmes. She grew up in Ridgewood, Queens, NY, the 8th of 11 children. Eileen graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in Brooklyn, NY and attended Hunter College. Eileen was a secretary for This Week Magazine earlier in her life. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Greenlawn, NY. Eileen loved to travel, read the newspaper, sit on her deck looking at the water and, most of all, be a mother and grandmother. Besides her loving husband of 58 years, she is survived by her two sons, Attorney Stephen Adams of Woodstock, CT and Kevin Adams and his wife Marsha of Simsbury, CT; her daughter, Nancy Taylor and her husband Craig of Canton, CT; her six grandchildren who lovingly called her “Mileen”, Clancey, Brogan, Liam, Christian, Frances and Ryan. She is also survived by her brothers Donald Holmes and Jerry Holmes and her sister Joanie (John) Peter and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven of her siblings. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Friday, February 12th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral will be Saturday, February 13th, 10:15 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Simsbury. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint Francis Foundation, 95 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105 in Honor of Eileen Adams. All gifts will benefit Cancer Care at Saint Francis.
