Obituary for Barbara Young (Schueller)

Barbara Young (Schueller)
Barbara (Schueller) Young passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, October 28, 2008 surrounded by loved ones after a valiant battle with a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Howard Lee and Jane (Reese) Schueller. Born October 19, 1933, Barbara was raised in Middletown, OH. In high school she won the prestigious girls state radio announcer award. She graduated from high school in Middletown and college at Miami University in Ohio. In 1953 Barbara married her high school sweetheart Richard Young. She taught school for a year in Ohio before moving to Connecticut in 1956. The couple moved to Canton with their four children in 1967. Barbara was a multi talented woman with friends in all walks of life. Kind and compassionate, she was an exceptionally loving mother to her four children and just as loving to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara was active in her church and community and was involved in volunteer work such as reading for the blind, the United Way and the Canton Historical Society. She had a love of music and the arts, but outside of her family, her greatest passion and accomplishment was teaching. In 1969, she and several other women started the Canton Community Nursery School where Barbara taught for twenty-five years and earned her masters degree in the process. She provided a wonderful first time learning experience for many young children before she retired as the teacher/Director of the school in June 1994. Barbara's goal had always been to have the school accredited. A month before her retirement she found out that the school had been officially accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood (NAEYC) one of only a handful of area nursery schools to have been so recognized. The last class she taught will be graduating high school this year. Barbara will be missed by so many, first and foremost the love of her life, her devoted husband of 55 years Richard Young. She is also survived by her brother, Howard Lee Jr., three daughters, Suki Incillo, Karen Clark and Susan Matheson; her son, Stephen Young; eight grandsons, Jason Incillo, Joshua Incillo, Andrew Verrilli, Paul Verrilli, Jordan Matheson, Jacob Matheson, Samuel Young and Jack Young; two granddaughters, Kellie Jennison and Samantha Clark; a great-grandson, Devin Incillo; a great-granddaughter, Mariah Jennison and numerous friends and loved ones. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Canton Center, 184 Cherry Brook Road, Canton Center on Sunday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canton Community Nursery School, 534 Cherry Brook Road, North Canton, CT 06059 in memory of Barbara Young. Vincent Funeral Home, Canton is assisting the family with the arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.vincentfuneralhome.com. “Climb every mountain, ford every stream.
