Obituary for Lynda Marie Trumbull

Lynda Marie Trumbull of West Simsbury and Old Saybrook, wife and partner of George R. Trumbull III, passed away peacefully on October 26th, in her home with her family by her side.

Lyn is survived by her husband and partner of 45 years and by her children, Melissa Ingrid Trumbull Mitchell (Duncan) of Glencoe, IL and George R. Trumbull IV of New York City.

In addition, she leaves behind her mother, Constance L. Johnson of Bloomfield, her brother Jeffery L. Johnson (Candace) of Plainville and her sister, Lisa Johnson of Shrewsbury, MA along with six nephews and one niece.

Lyn was predeceased by her father Theodore W. Johnson and by her brother Theodore D. Johnson (Robin).

Lyn was a beautiful, some would say striking, woman—smart, creative with a huge heart and a mischievous sense of humor who gave willingly to her family and friends. A wonderfully supportive mother whose two children were her pride and joy. She always had time to listen to them and to her special friends when they needed to talk.

She was in the first graduating class from Northwest Catholic High School, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Hartford and earned a Masters degree in Russian History.

Lyn was a wonderful partner to George - his rock and shining light. She courageously uprooted herself from family and friends to join George - as she would say “more than one half a world away”- on their great Australian adventure and she travelled extensively with him to most parts of the globe, in spite of her fear of flying.

She loved all creatures - big or small - from the bears who came to swim in the pool to her favorite birds. She was Dog-Mommy to Dinah, Linus, Phoebe and especially Angela the puppy she rescued and who gave Lyn much love, many kisses and great solace during Lyn’s long illness.

A special thanks to the women - Maple, Evette, Liz, Mamie, Maria, Kelveta, Janet, Christine and Dorothy - who made it possible for Lyn to stay at home thru the course of her illness. Your loving care delivered with grace and dignity is something for which we will be forever grateful.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Rd. in West Simsbury on Monday, October 31st at 11 am, with a reception to follow in the church hall.

There will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or to two organizations that Lyn believed in and supported: Malta House of Care, 19 Woodland St. Suite 21, Hartford, CT 06105 or Our Companions, PO Box 673, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
