Obituary for
Henry E. Jepsen
Henry Edgar Jepsen, 90, of Canton, husband of the late Paula (Turner) Jepsen, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Avon Health Center. He was born December 5, 1926 in Hartford, son of the late Henry and Alice (Nissen) Jepsen and was a long time resident of Canton prior to moving to Avon to live with Jamie and his family. He was a graduate of the Canton High School, Class of 1944 and had served in the Merchant Marines during World War II receiving the Pacific War Zone Bar and the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving with the 17th Infantry Regiment of the 7th Division, receiving the Combat Infantry Badge and Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars. Henry attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He attended the West Avon Congregational Church where he enjoyed watching Emma and Tessa sing in the junior choir and participate in church plays.
Henry enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and vacationing in Hilton Head, SC with Jamie, Jenn, Emma and Tessa. He was also an avid fan of UCONN Women’s Basketball.
He is survived by his two sons, Mark Jepsen and his wife Pat of Farmington and James Jepsen and his wife Jennifer of Avon; his daughter, Jill Heyne; his brother, Donald Jepsen and his wife Lois of Canton; his grandchildren, Emma, Tessa, Eric, Kendall, Mindy, Mara and several nieces, nephews, and great grand children
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Henry was predeceased by his daughter, Joanne Hammond and two sisters, Evelyn and Arlene.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Tuesday, January 3rd from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 4th at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friendship Circle, 280 Country Club Road, Avon CT 06001.
