Obituary for Betty Marie Stein (Loser)

Betty Marie Stein, 90, of Simsbury, was an amazing woman. She passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017, comfortable at home with her loving husband Paul, a marriage of over 67 years. Giving life to five boys, she was an exceptional mother. A master of diplomacy and discipline, she continued her skills as an elementary school teacher in Avon for over 30 years.
Born in Los Angeles, CA to Marie (Crose) and Walter Shaud Loser on July 22, 1927, she was an only child that loved books at an early age. She would spend many hours at the bow of a pepper tree delighted in text. She was an accomplished cellist, playing in the USC Orchestra and the Peter Merenbloom Orchestra. Dancing was another pleasure of hers and it was an encounter with Paul that led to a life long marriage.
Predeceased by two years, her first born son Richard, she leaves behind her husband Paul, second son Larry and his wife Ann Marie and grandson Ernest, third son Tom and his wife Ethel, fourth son Jim and three grandchildren, Jessica and husband Jorge and great grandchildren, Vincente and Gariela, Joey and wife Joy and great grandchild Benjamin, and Josh and his wife Amanda and fifth son Peter and grandson Jeremy.
Betty had a zest for life and adventure. After Peter started college, Paul and Betty would venture out all over the world. Naturally affable, Betty could charm even Eastern Bloc guards to a smile. Around town, a simple shopping trip to the store would take half the day because of the many encounters of friends, former students and parents. On her 90th birthday, she was joined by her friends from basket weaving club.
We will be celebrating her life with a service at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Avon on Thursday, September 14th at 10:30 AM. We ask all those whose life has been touched by this special woman to attend. Our sincere thanks to Janet for her deep friendship to Betty and her son Richard for his heart melting performance of Irish Waltzs and jiggs to Betty on his violin. Peace to All. The Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury is caring for the arrangements.
