Obituary for Gunvor Inga-Britt Norcross (Gustavsson)

Gunvor Inga-Britt Norcross (Gustavsson)
Gunvor “Gaga” Norcross passed away peacefully on October 14, 2017 at the age of 90 at John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington, CT. Gunn was born in Dalarna, Sweden on July 27, 1927 and grew up in Stockholm, Sweden. She was always interested in science and worked as a technician in a human research laboratory of the Royal Caroline Institute in Stockholm. Gunn also was in the Swedish Army and worked in the “Blue Star” attending to veterinary care for the horses used in the Swedish military. She needed to learn to be more fluent in English for her work and sought out a tutor who turned out to be a student attending the University of Stockholm and her future husband of 56 years, Roy Norcross. Roy and Gunn were married at Colby College in Maine, then moved to Cheshire, CT to raise their family. During this time, Gunn taught at the Montessori School of Cheshire. As her children got older, she worked at the Kronor Scandinavian Gift Shop in Farmington, CT. Gunn then went back to work in the medical field and worked as an EEG Technician for the Neurology Department of St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. She really enjoyed this position and even after retiring as a technician, stayed on as a receptionist in a satellite office in Avon until she was almost 80.
Gunvor cherished her family both in Sweden and in the U.S. She and Roy along with their dog Magoo traveled to Sweden from their home in Canton, CT, as well as after their move to Avon, CT. Her children and grandchildren were all able to travel to Sweden with them. Gunn also enjoyed vacationing in Madison, CT as well as Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. Roy preceded Gunvor’s death on December 1, 2011. She leaves behind her daughter, Elizabeth Madden and her husband Thomas Bristol; her son, Roy Norcross and his wife Lisa; her grandchildren, Christina Bristol, Jennifer Viering, Alexandra Madden, Caitlin Brondsdorfer, and Sam Norcross; her great grandchildren, Carter and Harper Bristol and Keegan Viering. She also leaves her beloved sister, MagBritt Skarsvag.
There will be a celebration of Gunvor’s life at the home of Elizabeth and Thomas, 17 Morgan Road, Canton at 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 28th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Joyce D. and Andrew J. Mandell Center for Comprehensive Multiple Sclerosis Care and Neuroscience Research, 490 Blue Hills Avenue, Hartford, CT 06112. Please visit Gunn’s “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online condolences.
