Obituary for Naomi Moulton (Messenger)

Naomi Messenger Moulton passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and friend, on Saturday, January 27th.

Naomi was born in Winsted Hospital on February 20, 1930, on a bright sunny unseasonably warm day. She grew up on the family farm in North Canton as the eldest daughter of six siblings. Naomi met her husband, Dean, when he stopped to buy apples she was selling at the farm. They fell in love and began their journey together on September 23rd, 1950 enjoying a 55 year marriage until Dean’s death in June 2005. The family home in North Canton is replete with Naomi’s special architectural touches, as is the family’s second home in Bomoseen, Vermont, where many special memories have been enjoyed by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Naomi and Dean were also partners when it came to running the family businesses, Moulton Paving, Inc., and Ledgemere Industrial Park. Naomi continued to work as a business woman until her death, managing her commercial and residential properties, demonstrating a work ethic she learned at an early age.

Naomi was an avid historian, with an eye toward detail and accuracy. As a result, the Messenger genealogy was completed, written, and bound. As an artist, many of her paintings and designs have found their way onto walls in her own home, as well as her family’s. Her talents were also evident in the gardens she planted, where flowers were coaxed into beautiful blooms.

Memberships include the Daughters of the American Revolution and lifetime membership at the North Canton Community Methodist Church. Naomi had also volunteered for several years as a docent at the Collinsville Historical Museum, where she created the bridal display.

She leaves her children, Priscilla Moulton of Herrenberg, Germany; Joan Moulton and her partner, Dennis Nogueira of East Hartford; and Dean Moulton and his wife, Mary of Moretown, Vermont. She leaves eight grandchildren: Carly Harrison of Nederland, CO; Tony Gonzalez and wife, Megan of Tolland; Christian Gonzalez and wife, Mia of Vernon; Daniel Gonzalez and wife, Carla of Middletown; Amber Moulton and husband, Brent Sugimoto, of Cambridge, MA; Erin Robinson and husband, Jason, of Windham, NH; Casey Moulton and partner, Roy Rose of Barre, VT and Morgan LaRock and husband, Stephen, of Berlin, Vermont. Naomi also leaves 11 great grandchildren: Trey and Tyler Gonzalez of Tolland; Dean, Claudia, Charlotte and Sam Gonzalez of Vernon; Noa Moulton of Cambridge, MA; Tucker Robinson of Windham, NH; Sullivan and Wesley LaRock of Berlin, VT and Catori Rose of Barre, VT.
