Obituary for Eric Hellwig

Eric F. Hellwig, 84, lifelong resident of Simsbury, beloved husband of C. Anne P. Hellwig, died on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at home. He was born October 5, 1933 in Manchester, CT, son of the late Eric E. and Marita Hellwig. Eric was a member of the Honor Guard, US Army Paratrooper 82nd Division; Knights of Columbus; and Scoutmaster of Troop 76, Simsbury. He received the Silver Beaver award from the Boy Scout council and was a Hometown Hero award recipient. He enjoyed camping, Simsbury High football and basketball games, UCONN basketball, the Boston Red Sox and Green Bay Packers. In addition to his beloved wife, Anne, Eric is survived his three sons: Dan (Patty), Tom (Karen), and Steve (Janice Reddington); his grandchildren, Andrea, Cristina, and Danielle Hellwig, Ashton and Zachary Hellwig, and Nikolas Hellwig (mother Pamela Hellwig); a sister: Exilda (Gary) Gregory. He was predeceased by his brother, Dale R. (Marilyn) Hellwig. The family is grateful to the staff of the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center for their care, especially nurse Donna Rioux and Dr. Schauer as well as Dr. Ralph Rosenberg and his staff. Relatives and friends may join the family for calling hours Monday, February 5th from 4 to 8 pm at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 6th at 10 am at the funeral home with burial to follow in Simsbury Cemetery.
