Obituary for Ann Mitchell Cassky (Mitchell)

Ann Mitchell Cassky, beloved wife of the late Andrew H. Cassky for 45 years, passed away at McLean Health Center in Simsbury on her 99th birthday, March 9, 2018. Daughter of the late Michael and Beatrice Mitchell, she attended Simsbury High School. Ann worked as cafeteria manager for the Tariffville Elementary School for 10 years and was a member of Trinity Church in Tariffville and a past member of the Tariffville Village Association. She loved Tariffville and proudly lived there for 87 of her 99 years. Ann had many hobbies and interests - she was always busy creating quilts, decorative wreaths, or sewing. The holidays were special times for her and she had a knack for decorating, entertaining and making the best cookies. She was a talented early American decorative painter for over 50 years, having taken lessons at the West Hartford Art League. Ann showcased her painted items at local craft fairs and was a frequent instructor for the Employees Club events at the former Connecticut General. She was happiest being outdoors and loved working in her yard and flower gardens accompanied by her cats Penelope, Muffin and neighbor cat, Simon. She spent many tranquil summer evenings canoeing on Lake Ashuelot at the family cottage in New Hampshire with her husband and was brave enough to try water skiing once.
Ann is survived by her four daughters, Judith C. Labesky and her husband Roy of Vero Beach, FL; Deborah C. Oberg and her husband Erik of Granby; Holly C. Buckland and her husband Dwight of West Suffield; Shelley E. Cassky of East Hartland and four grandchildren, Lisa L. Schlesinger of Vero Beach, FL, Andrew J. Schrader and her husband Brad of Kennebunk, ME and six great-grandchildren, Sabrina and Natalie Schlesinger, Owen Labesky, Griffin and Warren Pelletier and Lilla Schrader. She is also survived by all the wonderful caregivers she had at McLean Health Center who became her extended family. She was predeceased by her brothers Joseph and Bruno Mitchell and her sisters Frances Loisi and Ruth Mitchell, by great-granddaughter Esther Schrader and her sister-in-law Barbara C. Raitto.
