Obituary for Marilyn Jean Giese (Webb)

Marilyn Jean (Webb) Giese, 80, of Avon, wife of the late David Reid, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Apple Rehab of Avon. She was born May 10, 1937 in Lexington, KY, daughter of the late Roy E. and Marion (McLean) Webb. Marilyn grew up in Milwaukee, WI. She lived in Waterloo, Des Moines and Panora, IA. She also lived in Kaneohe, HI, Tulare, CA, and most recently in Avon, CT.
She was a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Early Childhood Education in 1965. She also received a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Drake University in 1976. Ms. Giese was the Director of Day Care Services Inc. of Des Moines, IA and an assistant director of the Child Development Center at Schofield Barracks, HI. The Simsbury Free Library recently employed Marilyn as a genealogy instructor. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Visalia, CA; First Unitarian Society of Hartford, CT; the Association of Professional Genealogists; and the Farmington Valley Weavers.
She is survived by her children: Mark Giese of Boston, MA; Darren Giese of Bloomington, MN; step daughters Sue Angelier and husband Tracy of Southington, CT; and Deb Reid Lasko and husband David of Lake Orion, MI. Her grandchildren, Ian Giese and Kiana Angelier and her sister, Elizabeth Halloran and Liz’s husband Jack of Plymouth, MA, also survive her. Marilyn was married to Harlan Giese of Ankeny, IA from 1957 to 1980.

A memorial gathering will be held in the club house of the Peachtree Village community located off of Darling Drive in Avon CT at 2:30pm Saturday May 5th. Memorial donations may be made to the First Unitarian Society of Hartford.
