Obituary for Charles E. Olsen

Charles E. Olsen of Avon passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018 after a long illness. He was born on November 10, 1930 in Bayonne, New Jersey and grew up in Nutley, New Jersey. He was a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, Class of 1954, and University of Connecticut School of Law, Class of 1961.
Following his graduation from Kings Point, Charlie sailed for Texaco for two years, and then joined Combustion Engineering, where he retired in 1985 as Director of Worldwide Operations-Power Systems Services. His work at Combustion focused on international contracts and licensing, and he was a frequent overseas traveler, including many trips to India. After Combustion, he worked for Bristol Babcock in Watertown, Connecticut, finally retiring in 1993.
Charlie leaves behind his beloved wife of sixty years, Joan, and sons Charles (Gale) of Lebanon, Connecticut and Harold (Abigail) and grandsons William and Thomas of Scarsdale, New York. He enjoyed fishing and boating, and had a great love for animals, especially dogs. He and Joan welcomed several rescue dogs into their home over the years.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 28th at the Simsbury Cemetery, 16 Plank Hill Road, Simsbury. Donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111-1593 or the Animal Rescue Foundation, 366 Main Street, Terryville, CT 06786. The Vincent Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements. Please visit Charlie’s “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
