James Burgess McIntosh, 92, of West Simsbury, beloved husband of Mary (Sellman) McIntosh, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Wednesday, April 25, 2018 while at McLean in Simsbury, following recent illnesses. He was born February 9, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY son of the late James and Gertrude (Burgess) McIntosh. Jim grew up in Scarsdale NY and also lived in Irvington NY prior to moving to West Simsbury with his family 50 years ago.
Jim was a Veteran of the U.S Army Air Forces, having served in World War II. He received his Bachelors Degree from Colgate University, Class of 1950. Jim enjoyed a long career in Medical Sales with 3M company, where he traveled New England until his retirement. Following retirement from 3M, Jim's entrepreneurial spirit continued on in his ownership and operation of The Village Print Shop in Avon for many years.

Jim was a member of the Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford, Avon-Canton Rotary, where he was a proud recipient of the Paul Harris award, and the Geritol Swingers Golf League. He was a self-taught architect, and designed a home-away-from home in VT, where he enjoyed spending time with family, sailing on Lake Champlain, skiing, and working outdoors around the home. He was a devoted family man and an adventurer, and particularly enjoyed taking his family across the country for 6 weeks in the summer of 1972. Jim always enjoyed sharing a laugh and telling stories.

Besides his wife of nearly 65 years, he is survived by his children, Susan McIntosh Banville of Hartford, CT, James B. McIntosh, Jr. and his wife Wendy Menzel McIntosh of Lincoln, VT, John S. McIntosh and his wife Natalie of Salvo, NC , Jane McIntosh Diorio and her husband Greg of Redding, CT; four grandchildren, Scott and Christopher Banville, Ernesta McIntosh, and Peter Diorio; and his brother-in-law, Nils Sellman of Simsbury, nephews David Sellman of LaGrange, GA, Byran Sellman of New Hartford, and niece Nancy Scott of New Britain, and their families.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at McLean for their caring support of Jim and the whole family.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, Friday, May 4th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A celebration of his life with military honors will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 5th in Simsbury Cemetery, Plank Hill Road.
