Joan (Carrier) Eddy, 84, of Simsbury, beloved wife of William L. Eddy, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018 at her home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with ALS. She was born November 17, 1933 in New Milford, CT, daughter of the late Malcolm Hart and Winifred (Hoyt) Carrier and had lived in Bloomfield, prior to moving to Simsbury 47 years ago. Joan was a graduate of Green Mountain Junior College, Class of 1953, and was a secretary in the Group Insurance division at Aetna Life & Casualty for several years. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Simsbury.

Joan was an exceptional wife and mother who thoroughly enjoyed raising children and spending family summers at Candlewood Lake. In her spare time over the years she bowled, golfed, played tennis and bridge, and spent countless hours doing crossword puzzles and cross stitch. She was a true die hard fan of the Boston Red Sox and also loved to watch the New England Patriots and the New York Giants. Joan and Bill always looked forward to their annual excursion to Bermuda, meeting up with a close group of friends for many years.

Besides her husband of 59 years, she is survived by her children, Stephen Eddy and his wife Terri of Scarborough, ME, Elizabeth “Lisa” Donnelly and her husband John of Rye, NY and David Eddy and his wife Gina of Simsbury; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Shannon, Jack, Jaime, Kaitlyn, Connor and Sarah. She was predeceased by her brother, Malcolm Carrier, Jr. of New Milford.

Calling hours are at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Sunday, May 6th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be celebrated Monday, May 7th, 11:00 AM at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery.
